A Q&A with Jack about him and the team..................
Hey Jack! Tell us, how old are you and where are you from and how long have you been riding/racing mtbs?
Hey guys! I’m 28 and I live in Saddleworth near Manchester, but I’m originally from Huddersfield. I’ve been riding MTBs for a very long time with my old man. I did the off road sea to sea when I was 6, which involved riding over Black Sail Pass. I’ve always loved mountain biking. I started racing DH when I was 17 back in 2006 while I was still playing football at quite a high level. As soon as I got into it I left the football behind and my life has been all about DH and MTBs ever since!
What do you do from day to day?
I have a number of things to keep me busy. I run One Vision Global Racing with my old man, Phil, so the logistics of all that take a lot of time. I’m also an Optometrist, and I work as a self employed locum. This winter has been the first off season that I haven’t worked full time in the clinic and it’s made a massive difference to my training and preparation for the season. I do a load of strength and conditioning training as my main form of cross training. On the bike training involves trail rides throughout the week and I ride DH every Sunday when we're not away racing. My remaining hours are spent chilling with my beautiful fiancé Sarah and looking after my dog Albus.
What was your favourite moment of 2016?
I have a number of great memories from the 2016 race season. If I had to pick a favourite it would be winning my first BDS race at Lllangollen. However my first world cup top 20 result, 19th at Mont Saint Anne, comes very close as well!
So it's your third year running the team now. What have you taken from last two years and what has changed?
We couldn’t be happier with the team’s progression so far. The first two years have gone so well we’re in a really strong position in 2017. We’ve made a few changes, but most of the things we do will operate in the same way. One thing I’ve focused on this winter is improving our pit setup. We’ve bought a bigger race van and new tools and pit equipment to improve that aspect of our setup. We’ve expanded again and now have five riders, three of us racing every world cup and the other two focusing on national events.  Our main objectives remain the same – race hard and have fun!
What new sponsors have you bought onto the team this year?
We have a number of new exciting sponsors joining us this year: Crank Brothers pedals, Gusset Components saddles, ESP are our new graphics sponsor, Kieran Baldwin is the teams’ designer, Monkey Fresh for casual clothing and 3 Point Therapy for physio who will be coming to most of the races with us in 2017! Adding these guys to our existing list of amazing supporting brands is awesome!
Any new additions to the team riderwise?
Myles James is the team's only new signing for 2017, and Will, George and James all stay with the team for another season. Myles is already good friends with Will as they both live in Hereford, and because of this knows most of the lads well already. This has made it easy for him to fit into the team dynamic and quickly become a valued team member. Myles finished 4th in the British Cycling Expert overall rankings in 2016 and also moves into Elite for 2017. He is training hard this winter and has his sights set on a great rookie elite season, as he explains here:

‘2017 will be my first season in the elite category and I am over the moon to be riding for One Vision Global Racing this season. I can't thank the team and all of our sponsors enough for the support and I am looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead. My aims for this season are to compete in the British Downhill Series and at selected European races to get enough points to race world cups in 2018. Bring on the season ahead I can't wait to be sat on that start line!'

So what events will the team be at this year?
We’ll be racing all of the BDS and World Cup events, so watch out for our team pit and come and say hey, we have stickers! We’ll also be racing Crankworx in Whistler this summer, which I’m really excited about! We will kick the season off with some Portugal Cup races like we did last year, so we’re not rusty going into the first BDS!
You've been going out to Ride Portugal a lot this winter. You must really like it out there?
It’s awesome as they have literally some of the best tracks I’ve ever ridden, and such a variation! The out and out racetrack style track there called ‘Mac 10’ is what I use for testing and very like a world cup track. Then there are number of other tracks that are so much fun! Some have big jumps and smooth berms. Others are more single track and technical. I’d recommend a trip out there to anyone who likes riding MTBs! We head back there next week with the whole team to start the season and I can’t wait!
Have you set yourself any personal goals for the year?
My goals remain the same as ever: have fun, race as hard as I dare and enjoy life! Hopefully I’ll keep moving up that result sheet towards the pointy end! Finishing 27th in the world cup overall last year, with a top 20 result and some top 10 split times, fills me with confidence going into this new season after my first full winter of training! Excited!!
Anything you'd like to add?
The dynamic in the team this year is amazing with everyone being good friends from the outset. The banter is strong and as a result the atmosphere is electric in our pits, which makes for good riding and racing!
As always we need to say a huge thank you to all of the team's supporting brands. Without these guys the team wouldn't exist and we're so lucky to have the backing of such amazing companies and products:

Nicolai Bikes, Mojo Suspension, ONeal, Hope Technology, Schwalbe Tyres, Clif Bar, MRP, Works Components, Crank Brothers, Dirt Factory, DNA Sports Performance, Rock Guardz, Gusset Components, 3 Point Therapy, Monkey Fresh, Extra UK and ESP.

We also need to take the opportunity to thank a number of great individuals who support One Vision, purely because of their amazing good will and believe in the program we run! These people are:
Lars Jones and Ben Harrison - race mechanics
Callum Philpott - media work in the form of amazing photos and video
Kieran Baldwin - designer of logos, race jerseys and anything else we need
Mark Davies, Richard Taylor, and Adey Bennett - provide much needed help towards the huge financial expenses of racing around the world
